The development of the Tanzanian local content policies
The study provides an analysis of the Tanzanian local content policy (LCP), its origin, processes influencing the positions, stakeholder involvement and a mapping of the key events that influenced the development of the policy. In this work, we will compare the Tanzanian LCP with those of other countries. The research questions are as follows:
•What where the main influencing factors leading to the Draft One Local Content Policy?
•Which stakeholders influenced the process? What was the role of the international development agencies?
•Is the Tanzanian LCP different compared to other countries, and if so, how and why?
•Does the process matter for implementation of the policy? Implications of the findings. Back
Credible analysis of effects of local content policies is demanding in terms of (a) identification of the effect, (b) application of suitable econometric approaches and estimation techniques, and (c) for finding and follow up of research subjects at a later stage. At this stage, we therefore have only preliminary and general research questions along the following lines:
•What are the effects of existing local content policies on the participation of domestic capital, labour, technology and suppliers of goods and services in the sector?
•What are the effects of existing local content policies on promoting capacity development of domestic capital, labour, technology and suppliers of goods and services in the sector? Back
